The Facilities of WUB

1. Staff and Faculty Training Programme

The World University of Bangladesh resource development comprises with three tiers of development such as faculty development, professional development and appraisal system. Following is the brief description which has covered three development programmes of WUB.

1.1 Faculty Development

With a view of achieving efficient faculty development, the workshops are arranged in every semester with pragmatic approaches. Such workshops are very much informal in nature where information is shared with participants and resource persons, which usually help to formulate a good faculty development. Furthermore, the workshop culminates the development of research skills and interactive relationships among faculties. Academic training programs are also taken place from national to international bodies by active participation. Furthermore, the WUB encourages participating programs leading to PhD in and outside of the country and allows teachers to go to abroad for higher studies with paid leaves.

1.2 Professional Development

The administrative staffs are locally trained to enhance their performance on computer operation by using ERP system. They are also trained for English language practices by reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Since, English is the medium of instruction and being practiced every sphere of WUB life. A self- assessment procedure takes place to understand the weakness of the candidates and give fruitful solution to overcome the drawbacks.

1.3 Faculty and Staff Appraisal System

The WUB faculty and staff are appraised almost every semester with reference of teaching ability and punctuality. Beside this, the appraisal meetings are usually held in-house to assess the faculty and staff. The Academic Council Meeting (ACM) is held every four months where faculty issues discussed by academics. In addition, semester preparatory meeting also held beginning of each semester for the old and newly appointed faculty familiar with the teaching guidelines and other instructional aspects such as class monitoring, code of conduct.

2. Infrastructure Facilities

The World University of Bangladesh ensures contemporary infrastructure facilities to all students and faculties. Therefore, the university confirms the use of best available quality lab facilities in all areas of general, engineering and technology. The infrastructure facilities which includes practical facilities, electrical and electronic laboratory, chemistry laboratory, and computer pool.

2.1 Electrical and Electronic Laboratory

The EE laboratory is equipped with materials, instruments and equipments which is relevant to conduct the practical works of engineering programs. The labs include Digital Lab, Electrical Circuit Lab, Microprocessor and Interfacing Lab, Analog and Digital Communication Lab, Optical Fiber Communication Lab, and Electrical Machines Lab.

2.2 Chemistry and Physics Laboratory

The chemistry lab is for conducting tests and experiments of chemical properties in order to train students for their courses on Chemistry. The laboratory is properly equipped with necessary facilities, and equipments. A demonstrator is also available to help students in conducting their tests and experiments, as well as maintenance the laboratory. The laboratory has experimental facilities for qualitative chemical analysis. Furthermore, the physics laboratory is equipped with required facilities, and instruments which is essential for conducting the practical classes on physics. The laboratory has facilities to conduct some basic experiments of mechanics, heat, sound and light. The laboratory is being gradually expanding in items of space and equipment to meet the enhanced needs.

2.3. Computer Laboratory

WUB has its own network- based computer lab where students are able to share the resources effectively. The laboratory controls and manages all the computer- related activities of the university. Currently, it has sufficient number of PCs (Personal Computers), laptops, printers, scanners, multimedia projectors, and CD-writers. All labs are connected with modern IT infrastructure and facilities of high-speed internet (broadband) access for twenty four hours. Furthermore, the university has own domain for e-mail address (such as name@WUB.edu) and the users can get access the network with their valid login name and password and share the LAN resources. Microsoft NT server has been using for internet browsing connectivity, on the other side the Novel NetWare applied for sharing the file server.

3. Placement and Training Division

The placement and training service of this university provides assistance to the students for career planning and employment. In addition, the university has linkages with various industries which makes possible for students to seek internship. However, through the ‘center of excellence’, the university provides training, consultancy, and direct research activities which facilitate our linkage with the job sector.

4. Library and Information Services

The WUB library and information service is designed to serve the students, faculty, and researchers, and alumni. At present time, the library is linked with INAPS-PERI digital library systems that enable students, staffs, and researchers access to nearly 1 million resources of e-books, journals, and periodicals. Each of the university campus has a self sufficient library and comfortable reading zones.

5. Seminar and Workshops

The WUB regularly arranges seminars, workshops and professional talks by distinguished visiting or local academicians- professionals to notify university community with latest development of academic world. The university conducted 54 seminars under various associations and these shaped knowledge based discourse of the university. Such seminars and meetings are regularly held at the university and the students able to take the full benefit from these programs of their personal and professional growth.

6. Teaching and Learning Policy

The WUB is promised to support students to foster their working and personal skills for twenty first century. The teaching staffs of this university are very generous persons who help students in order to learn the content of study module easily. The university practices integrated learning approaches for the students which are focused on to become a successful industry leader both in family life and workplace.

  • Work placement: The industry placement secures students to work in a government, business or non government organization.
  • Problem based education: Students work in a group to explore the possible solutions of a problem. So students engage in research work by combination of practice and theory to which apply the skill to develop a solution.
  • Industry, social or development projects: Individual students or learning teams initiate a project based on a given problem by industry, or development institution.
  • Project based learning: Learning is organized around the projects that require students to engage in the design, implementation, decision making and problem solving ability.
