Bangladesh Paribesh Andolon (BAPA); World university of Bangladesh; Green Voice; Work For a Better Bangladesh Trust; Heritage Creativity Council; Blue Planet Initiative; and Stamford University Environment Science Department jointly organized a rally through which send a massage to the government to protect the city’s rare green space ‘arghya’, a park at the converge of the Green Road and the Mirpur Road near Science Laboratory entrance. It has been noticed that the BRB Cable Company is going to use the park for commercial purpose destroying the beauty of the park. The citizen rally in front of the park at 11.00 am on 3rd July, 2019 was held to protect the beauty of the park & the environment.
Prof. Abdul Mannan Choudhury, Vice Chancellor, World University of Bangladesh, hoped that the Dhaka South City Mayor would convince the BRB cables to set up their planned operations somewhere else. He also said, “we want development but development should not be hostile to the environment”.
BAPA general secretary Md Abdul Matin said “the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) handed over the space to Rafeya Abedin for beautification some years ago and she made an attractive park there but it is not clear why the city authority suddenly handed over the land to BRB cables”.
Former caretaker government advisor Hossain Zillur Rahman; Prominent theater personality Ramendu Mazumder; Urban beautification expert Rafeya Abedin who developed the park; Chairman of Stamford University Environmental Science Department Prof. Ahmed kamruzzaman; cultural activist shahriar salam and many others joint the rally. The movement was guided by the theater personality and actor Mamunur Rashid.
