The Department of Architecture, World
University of Bangladesh (WUB) organized a webinar entitled "Towards a
Sustainable City and Community: Sharing Architects' Experience in
Reconstruction of Fire-Resistant Informal Housing in Dhaka" on 14 August,
2021.
Dr. Afroza Ahmed, Sadia Subrina and
Safinaz Sameen were the guest speakers in the webinar. Each of the guests is
associated with architects, teachers from different universities and
researches. The event was hosted by Zenat Islam, Acting Head of the Department
of Architecture, World University of Bangladesh (WUB).
In the webinar, the architects
presented their work, contribution and experience in rebuilding the Korail and Sat
tola slums of Dhaka city in 2016 after a fire and a presentation with discussion.
The discussion focused on the design of light air ventilation and the creation
of a wide road with the participation of all.
The speakers gave their views on the
coexistence of informal housing as well as the need to protect it from various
disasters as well as buildings designed in a sustainable city.
The role of architects, urban
specialists, government and local bodies in creating informal housing for fire
prevention came up for discussion and at the same time students were invited to
participate in such work.
