Bangla Academy on Friday awarded fellowship to six distinguished personalities including former chief justice ABM Khairul Haque.  

The other five who received fellowship are viz. former diplomat Md Jamir, Actor Ataur Rahman, World University VC Prof Abdul Mannan Choudhury, Singer Fatema Tuz Zohra and Actor Shimul Yousuf.  

Bangla Academy Director General Shamsuzzaman Khan conferred the award among them for their contribution to the respective sectors at the 37th general annual meeting of the organisation.  

Every year, the Institute awards fellowship to the persons who have contribution for Bangla language in different sectors.  

This year, Sadat Ali Akond Literature Award was conferred to veteran writer Dr Fazlul Alam while Mazharul Islam Poem Award went to renowned Poet Asad Chowdhury.
