WUB 5th Convocation, 2022

The 5th Convocation of World University of Bangladesh (WUB) was held on Monday, November 28, 2022 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC), Dhaka. Hon’ble Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni, MP awarded degrees and gold medals to the students as the chair of the convocation on behalf of His Excellency the President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh & Chancellor of the university Mr. Md. Abdul Hamid. The Ceremony was also graced by Dr. Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, Poet and Researcher, Chief Coordinator of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Commitiee & Former Principal Secretary to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh, as the Convocation Speaker.

Prof. Dr. Abdul Mannan Choudhury, Vice Chancellor, World University of Bangladesh; Professor Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Chairman, Bangladesh Accreditation Council; Morsheda Choudhury, Treasurer, and  Dr. Musfiq Mannan Choudhury, Honorable Secretary, Board of Trustees, World University of Bangladesh were also present as special guests.

While addressing the ceremony Dr. Dipu Moni, MP highlighted the various development projects and efforts of the current government to improve the education system of Bangladesh. She said that for the implementation of “Vision 2041”, radical changes are being brought in the education system and in addition strategic planning for higher education are being executed. She also highlighted the importance of private universities in the education system of this country. In this regard, she congratulated the role of World University of Bangladesh and ensuring advanced and quality education since the inception of the university.

Dr. Musfiq Mannan Choudhury, Honorable Secretary, Board of Trustees, World University of Bangladesh gave welcome speech and welcomed all the honorable guests, teachers and students who attended the convocation. He thanked all the graduates for successfully completing their education. He also said with pride that world university of Bangladesh attained a prestigious 2nd top ranked position among the universities of Bangladesh in 2021 in the Times Higher Education impact ranking besides few observation of WURI. He wished all the graduates good luck for their future careers and urged them to develop themselves professionally and work for the development of the country.

Dr. Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, the Convocation Speaker, emphasized the role of Bangabandhu the father of the nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the establishment of Bangladesh as a new nation and its construction. He described how Bangabandhu's life-long struggles and movements reflected the issues of education, social disparity and poverty eradication, human welfare, peace, humanity and public interest in the journey of nationalism and homeland building.

Addressing graduates as the next generation leaders, Mr. Mohibul Hassan Choudhury, M.P, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Education, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in his speech urged the students not to be complacent by getting traditional education and degree but to make themselves competent and proficient in higher research and practical education. He also said that "Today's world is competency based, now a day’s what I can do is more important than what I know".

Professor Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Chairman, Bangladesh Accreditation Council, presented his speech as the special guest. He thanked World University of Bangladesh for receiving permanent recognition of the Ministry of Education on the recommendation of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh.

Prof. Dr. Abdul Mannan Choudhury, Vice Chancellor, World University of Bangladesh said that World university of Bangladesh has all out preparation to equip students with updated methods of higher education in order to prepare them to overcome the challenges of the 21st century. The new campus of the university offers an excellent academic environment with all infrastructural facilities for education and research at a very low cost. He also said, WUB will put efforts to create local and global leaders, independent thinkers, and innovative entrepreneurs who will be able to play a leading role. Prof. Dr. Abdul Mannan Choudhury specially thanked the Education Minister, Dr. Dipu Moni, MP, for receiving the Gusi Peace Prize for her "exemplary achievements" in the field of "public service and diplomacy".

Morsheda Choudhury, Treasurer, World University of Bangladesh presented a vote of thanks for all those who were present in the ceremony.  

About 7437 (Seven thousand Four Hundred and Thirty Seven) students were awarded graduation and post-graduation certificates, while three students were awarded the Chancellor's Gold Medal, three students were awarded the Founder's Gold Medal and one student was awarded the Vice Chancellor's Gold Medal. Members of BOT, Syndicate Members, Members of the Academic Council, Deans, Heads of Departments, Faculty members, awardees and distinguished guests were also present on this occasion. The members of the cultural club of World University of Bangladesh and the famous band "Artcell" performed a cultural program following the ceremony.
