World University of Bangladesh observed National Mourning Day

As a solemn tribute to the indomitable spirit of Bangladesh's founding president, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and in observance of National Mourning Day, a discussion and Doa Mahfil was arranged by World University of Bangladesh on 15 August 2023 (Tuesday) at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at WUB library. To mark the day, the National Flag was hoisted in the morning and kept at half-mast at World University of Bangladesh. Floral wreaths were placed at the portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman corner at WUB library.

At the beginning of the program, everyone took part in prayers for the forgiveness of the souls of the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and 18 members of his family, who were brutally killed on August 15 night back in 1975. The guests delved into his remarkable journey, his pivotal role in the nation's struggle for independence, and his lasting influence on Bangladesh's socio-political landscape. They expressed their deep reverence for Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's contributions and his dedication to the nation.

Freedom fighter Professor Dr. Abdul Mannan Chowdhury, Vice Chancellor, World University of Bangladesh was present in the event as the chief guest. Morsheda Chowdhury, Treasurer; and Professor Dr. M. Nurul Islam, Pro Vice Chancellor, World University of Bangladesh, were present as special guests. University Registrar, Controller of Examinations, Proctor, Deans, Heads of Departments, Teachers and Officials were also present on this discussion and prayer session.

The observance of National Mourning Day underscored WUB’s commitment to instilling the values upheld by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman among its students, fostering a sense of patriotism and responsibility towards the nation.
