World University of Bangladesh (WUB) has
observed Martyred Intellectuals Day with due solemnity on the campus. A
discussion program was held at the Treasurer Morsheda
Choudhury Auditorium around 11.00 am with heroic freedom
fighter and Founder Vice Chancellor of World University of Bangladesh,
Professor Dr. Abdul Mannan Choudhury. Dr. M. Nurul Islam, Pro Vice Chancellor,
World University of Bangladesh, University Registrar, Controller of
Examinations, Deans, Heads of Departments, Faculty members and Officials of the
university were also present in the meeting.
Professor Dr. Abdul Mannan Choudhury
presented a paper on the Martyred Intellectual Day. He said, “The Pakistan Intelligence had been
planning to make this country ignoramus. The plan was finalized on 14th
December in 1971. Under the leadership and guidance of Pakistani Major General
Roy Farman Ali, local brokers especially the Jamaat and its student organization
Islami Chhatra Sangh, some local Biharis, Razakars, Al-Badr Bahini made list of
intellectuals. These forces were led by Matiur Rahman Nizami, Mir Kashem Ali,
Chowdhury Moinuddin, Ashrafuzzaman Khan and others. On December 14, more than 200 professors,
journalists, writers, artists, engineers, doctors were taken from their homes
and killed by the members of these forces. Their main objective of this
massacre was to prevent the prosperity and progress of independent Bangladesh.”
He also mentioned that even after so many years we could not appreciate the
martyred intellectuals with due dignity.
Dr. M. Nurul Islam, Pro Vice Chancellor; Prof. Zaki Imam,
Registrar; Professor M. Moqbul Hossain, Controller of Examinations; Dr. Mohammad Quamruzzaman, Head, Electrical and
Electronic Engineering Department were also participated in the
discussion on the said paper and expressed their own views on Martyred Intellectuals
Day. All the discussant emphasized
on commemorating this day with due dignity and updating various information.
