An online discussion on “Relationship between Nature & Architecture”

An online discussion event was held on 16th January, 11.00 am in the Department of Architecture, World University of Bangladesh. The discussion topic of the program was “Relationship between Nature & Architecture”. Architect Md. Rafiq Azam who is one of the most prominent Architects of Bangladesh having a huge number of National and International Award on Architecture was the Guest Speaker. The program hosted by Architect Zenat Islam, Acting Head, Department of Architecture, WUB.

Ar. Rafiq Azam has shown the relation between nature and architecture from his projects. First of all, he nicely explained the geographical location and climate of Bangladesh. Wind flow, rain, river, water bodies, trees, fertile lands and natural elements have made Bangladesh like a poetry he told. Ar. Rafiq Azam also thought that Architecture is also a poetry because it represents the mystery of light, soothing air, flow of water with functional uses. He has shown various architectural elements (plants, waters), their uses and impact on surroundings through graphical presentations and the photos of his projects. Architectural projects such as residence, multifamily apartment buildings, graveyards took place in discussion.  He also talked about present technological advancement and the uses. Necessity of climatic considerations, understanding the nature and human emotions also discussed on the program. Architecture is not only the calculation of concrete rather it is a poetic responsibility commented Ar. Rafiq Azam.

At the end of the program, he answered a lot of questions of students from various universities and professional architects. 

Ar. Zenat Islam commented that, the content of his presentation was full of inspiration for the practicing architect, students and interested communities. 

This online discussion program was open for all. So that interested individuals can learn from the presentation from anywhere.
