University of Bangladesh's Cultural Club has been organized a two-day long
"Pitha Utshab-2023" in the university premises stated
from 2nd February 2023 (Thursday) and will continue till February 3, 2023 from
10 am to 5 pm. Eminent media personality and agricultural development activist,
Founder Director and News Head of Impress Telefilm Limited Mr. Shykh Seraj
inaugurated the Pitha Utshav as the Chief Guest at the inaugural function. The
ceremony was chaired by the honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Abdul Mannan
Choudhury, while the Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. M. Nurul Islam was present
as special guest.
Each stall is
decorated with different names, native decorations and different types of
Pitha. Students of different departments decorated the stalls with delicious
pitha puli of various names. Different types of pithas like Vapa, Puli,
Patisapta, Dudhchitai, Nakshi Pitha, Golap Pitha, Malpoa, Jhalpuli, Rangbahari,
Kheer Barfi, Tri-Veni, Rollpuli, Gudher Nadu, Jhal Bara, Raspakan, Kheer
Patisapta, Pushpamanjuri, etc were available in the utshab. The venue became
buzzing with the varied performances of the students.
Mr. Shykh Seraj
inaugurated the festival by cutting the ribbon and cake at 10.00 am. He praised
the initiative of the cultural club of World University of Bangladesh and
thanked the students who participated in the festival. In his speech, he highlighted the
history and traditions of the various festivals of the rural bangla and advised
the students to cherish our culture and traditions more in addition to their
institutional education. He also advised the students to come forward in the
field of agriculture.
Vice-Chancellor
Professor Dr. Abdul Mannan Chowdhury at the beginning of his speech thanked the
Chief Guest for coming to the event. He referred to Pitha Utsav as a part of
Bengali tradition. He said this festival helps us to bring out our own culture
and invited the students to organize all the festivals of our culture.
Treasurer
Morsheda Chowdhury in her speech reminisced about her childhood. Mentioning the
names of many lost pithas, he thanked the students for organizing this festival
and recalled the role of this festival in preserving our heritage. She
mentioned that through such events leadership, commit, responsibilities,
fellow-feelings is developed. All kinds of cultural practices should be
continued in the university through different arrangements.
Professor Dr.
M. Nurul Islam, Pro Vice Chancellor, World University of Bangladesh gave
welcome speech at the festival.
The guests
then visited the pitha stalls and tasted the pitha. University Registrar,
Controller of Examinations, Proctor, Deans, Heads of Departments, Teachers and
Officials were also present on the occasion. Apart from the university teachers
and students, common people around the campus enjoyed this festival.
