Seminar on "High-Performance Concrete Using Micro-Silica" Hosted bythe Department of Civil Engineering of World University of Bangladesh

The Department of Civil Engineering at the World University of Bangladesh (WUB) recently organized a seminar titled "High Performance Concrete Using Micro-Silica," in collaboration with industry experts from ELKEM. The event took place on February 17, 2024, ইন the Founder Treasurer Morsheda Choudhury Auditorium, providing a platform for experts, academics, and students to delve into the latest advancements in engineering and material sciences.

The seminar was inaugurated by Professor AFM Abdur Rauf, who delivered insightful remarks, setting the stage for discussions led by Suvro Das Bhowmick, Managing Director of CONSOL Limited, and Keynote Speaker Monoj Kumar Ghosh, Concrete Technologist (South Asia) at ELKEM. Ghosh's presentation shed light on the pivotal role of micro-silica in revolutionizing concrete technology, from its foundational significance to its evolution into high-strength formulations and the exploration of High-Performance Concrete (HPC).

The event, graced by esteemed personalities such as Professor Dr. Abdul Mannan Choudhury, Vice Chancellor of WUB, and Professor Dr. M. Nurul Islam, Pro-Vice Chancellor of WUB, provided a forum for engaging discussions and knowledge sharing. Dr. Mohammad Quamruzzaman, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at WUB, and Md Rahmat E Rabbi, Director of CONSOL Ltd., were among the distinguished attendees.

The seminar culminated in a lively Q&A session, where students exhibited a keen interest in advanced technologies, particularly focusing on determining the optimal micro-silica percentage for achieving peak concrete performance. Closing remarks from Sagor Kumar Podder, the event chair, highlighted the seminar's significance in bridging the gap between academic research and industry practices.

Professor Dr. Abdul Mannan Choudhury's enthusiastic involvement highlighted WUB's steadfast dedication to academic prowess and pioneering research endeavors, reaffirming the university's resolve to champion innovative and eco-friendly construction materials. The event served as a testament to the collective commitment of WUB, ELKEM, and CONSOL Limited in advancing construction material technologies for a sustainable future.
