The Department of
Business Administration organized a workshop titled "Mastering the Art of
Academic Writing and Scholarly Publications" on Monday, 4th August 2025,
at 11:00 AM in the Founding Treasurer Morsheda Choudhury Auditorium of World
University of Bangladesh.
The resource person for
the workshop was Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman, Associate Professor at the Lincoln
International Business School, University of Lincoln, United Kingdom.
Dr. Rahman advised
students to work in teams with individuals who specialize in various aspects of
research. At the initial stage, a new researcher should develop a research idea
based on their personal interests. When developing the title of a research
topic, he emphasized the importance of selecting appropriate measurement scales,
with a focus on Context (theory & location) and Relations (reflective &
formative).
In the literature
review section, he stressed the need to review both theoretical frameworks and
existing studies. Researchers should highlight the relationships between previous
findings and the current research objectives. This approach helps in combining
existing theories and findings to identify key variables to be examined.
Finally, researchers should identify the research gap their work intends to
address. To identify gaps from a Bangladeshi perspective, one can focus on
issues relevant to emerging markets. Based on the research gap, researchers can
then develop appropriate research questions and methodologies.
Regarding the selection
of relevant and publishable research topics, Dr. Rahman recommended choosing
topics that offer long-term benefits. To avoid plagiarism, he advised reading
from original sources and then writing independently without copying. Research
should aim to provide meaningful contributions, whether theoretical (e.g.,
methodological development) or practical—benefiting managers, practitioners,
policymakers, governments, communities, and society at large.
Professor Dr. M. Nurul
Islam attended the workshop as the Chief Guest. In his closing remarks, he
emphasized that anyone with a strong commitment to research can succeed in this
field.
At the end of the
session, Dr. Selim Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Head of the
Business Department, delivered the concluding remarks. He highlighted the importance
of collaboration and networking for new researchers to effectively learn the
research process and produce high-quality work.
Priyanka Das Dona,
Assistant Professor in the Department of Business Administration, served as the
anchor to maintain the sequence of the speakers and presenters during the
workshop.
