Afsana Akter Mitu is a mathematician and educator with strong academic and research credentials in applied and stochastic mathematics. She completed both her Bachelor of Science (2022) and Master of Science (2023) degrees in Mathematics from the University of Dhaka. Earlier, she achieved perfect GPAs in both her Secondary and Higher Secondary examinations from Cantonment Public School and College, Mymensingh, under the Dhaka Board.
Her research interests focus on stochastic programming, optimization, and applied mathematical modeling. During her M.Sc., she conducted thesis research on multi-stage stochastic programming models for production planning and manpower allocation in the textile industry, while her undergraduate project examined real-life applications of stochastic programming. She has co-authored peer-reviewed journal articles on stochastic programming applications and on heat transfer in nanofluid flow systems, contributing to interdisciplinary research at the interface of mathematics, engineering, and operations research.
Professionally, Afsana served as a Lecturer at Presidency University and later as a Sessional Faculty member at American International University, where she taught undergraduate mathematics courses. She is recognized for her dedication to teaching, teamwork, and problem- solving abilities, and she aspires to create inclusive learning environments that foster studentsβ intellectual and personal growth.
In addition to her academic work, she is proficient in a range of computational and programming tools, including MATLAB, FORTRAN, LaTeX, Mathematica scripting, and web programming, alongside standard office software. Fluent in both Bengali and English, she continues to pursue opportunities in higher education and research, aiming to advance mathematical applications in industry and society
