World University of Bangladesh (WUB) hosted
a delegation from UNESCO Bangladesh on August 24, 2026, for a strategic discussion
on climate change education, sustainability, research, and potential areas of
future collaboration. The visit provided an important platform for both
organizations to explore meaningful partnerships in education, research,
cultural development, and sustainable development in line with UNESCO’s
priorities.
The UNESCO Bangladesh delegation comprised Mr. Norihide Furukawa,
Head of Education; Ms. Mahfuza Rahman, Education Officer; and Ms. Masuma
Moriom, National Consultant. During the visit, the WUB leadership
highlighted the university’s ongoing initiatives in climate change education,
sustainability, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), research, and
community engagement.
The discussion focused on strengthening
institutional cooperation and developing joint initiatives that can contribute
to sustainable development while creating greater opportunities for students,
faculty members, researchers, and the wider community.
Potential areas of collaboration discussed
during the meeting included climate research programs, UNESCO lecture
series, webinars, seminars and conferences, collaborative research,
international SDG conferences, capacity-building programs, cultural education,
youth empowerment, and intercultural competence initiatives. Both sides expressed
interest in sharing knowledge, expertise, research findings, and best
practices, while strengthening connections with international academic and
professional networks.
WUB emphasized its commitment to empowering
young people, advancing sustainable development, promoting quality education,
and strengthening research and innovation. The university also expressed
interest in developing joint research initiatives and exploring opportunities
for a UNESCO
Chair,
along with other collaborative academic programs, particularly in the areas of
climate change, sustainable development, education, and intercultural
understanding.
The meeting was attended by the Honorable
Vice-Chairman, Board of Trustees, World University of Bangladesh; Honorable Pro Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Dean of Academic
Affairs and Research, Deans, Heads of Departments (HODs), along with other
members of the university’s academic and research leadership.
The
visit marks a significant step toward building stronger institutional cooperation
between World
University of Bangladesh and UNESCO Bangladesh. Both sides
expressed their commitment to exploring practical and impactful initiatives
that can contribute to quality education, research and innovation, cultural
understanding, climate action, youth empowerment, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs).
