The Department of Computer Science and
Engineering (CSE) at World University of Bangladesh (WUB) organized “Jagoron
Cyber Safety Day,” an interactive cyber safety workshop, on 14 October 2026.
The programme supported WUB’s SDG initiatives, focusing on SDG 4 (Quality
Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong
Institutions).
The workshop featured four interactive booths
covering digital privacy, device security, the risks of cracked software and
free and open-source alternatives, and a scenario-based quiz. Participants also
took a Safe Campus Pledge and received guidance on reporting cyberbullying and
online harassment. With support from trained student ambassadors, participants
practiced improving security settings on their own mobile phones and collected
stamps in a “Jagoron Passport.”
The programme engaged more than 370 participants, including
students, faculty members, and administrative staff. The initiative was also
informed by an anonymous online survey that received 528 responses from WUB
students. The survey revealed that only 38% of respondents knew the
specific office and procedures for reporting cyber incidents at WUB,
highlighting the need for greater awareness of institutional reporting
channels.
The project was led by Dr. Md. Amran Hossen,
Assistant Professor, in collaboration with Kh. Mustafizur Rahman, Senior
Lecturer, and Mst. Nishita Aktar, Lecturer, of the Department of CSE. Fourteen
trained Jagoron Ambassadors supported the event by facilitating the interactive
booths and guiding participants.
Participants appreciated the initiative and
expressed interest in more frequent cyber safety programmes. The department
plans to continue Jagoron as a recurring initiative and share its digital
safety guide to strengthen awareness across the university community.
Through this initiative, WUB reaffirms its
commitment to promoting digital literacy, responsible online behaviour, and a
safer digital environment in line with the United Nations Sustainable
Development Goals.
