The Department of Tourism and Hospitality
Management, in collaboration with the WUB THM Club of the World University of
Bangladesh (WUB), successfully observed "Pohela Falgun," a celebration of Bengali traditions, marking the first day
of the Bengali spring season, colorfully adorned with flowers. The program took
place on February 13, 2025, at the WUB Tourism and Hospitality Management Lab.
The ceremony was presided over by Professor Mohammed
Nasimul Azim, Chairman and Director of the Department of Tourism and
Hospitality Management at WUB. The event was further honored by the presence of
Professor Dr. M. Nurul Islam, Pro-Vice Chancellor of World University of
Bangladesh, as the Chief Guest, and Prof. Zaki Imam, Registrar of World
University of Bangladesh, as the Special Guest. Faculty members from the THM
department, along with the heads of other departments and students from the THM
department, were also present at the program.
Their insightful speeches and words of encouragement
inspired the students to continue embracing and preserving Bengali traditions,
fostering a deeper connection to their cultural
heritage.
In his speech, Professor Dr. M. Nurul Islam
expressed the significance of maintaining cultural traditions while preparing
for a globalized future. He said, “Events
like Pohela
Falgun remind us of the importance of our roots, and by
embracing these traditions, we preserve the essence of who we are. It is
crucial to keep our cultural heritage alive in the midst of modernization.”
Prof. Zaki Imam, in his address, emphasized the role
of students in preserving cultural traditions and shared how such celebrations
foster unity and understanding among students. He noted, “Cultural events
like Pohela
Falgun not only enhance our connection to Bengali traditions
but also offer students the opportunity to showcase their creativity while
appreciating the value of cultural diversity.”
Presiding over the event, Professor Nasimul Azim
expressed his pride in the students and faculty members for their
participation. He remarked, “At WUB, we encourage our students to honor and
celebrate our rich cultural heritage while embracing new ideas. Observing Pohela Falgun is a reminder of the beauty of tradition, and I am proud of
how our students continue to carry forward this legacy.”
The event showcased the vibrant spirit of Bengali
culture, with traditional dress, folk music, poem recitation, dance,
and a fashion show that reflected the essence
of Pohela
Falgun. Students actively participated in the festivities,
creating a lively atmosphere that celebrated
the arrival of spring and the importance of cultural preservation.
