World University of Bangladesh (WUB) organized a seminar titled “Awareness Programs on Electricity Saving” on August 28, 2025, to promote efficient energy use and foster a sustainable campus environment. The event was graced by Professor Dr. M. Nurul Islam, Pro-Vice Chancellor of WUB, as the Chief Guest and chaired by Prof. Zaki Imam, Registrar of WUB. Distinguished speakers included Professor Dr. Mohammad Quamruzzaman, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering and Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), Dr. Md. Mohsin, Senior Assistant Professor, and Md. Sharif Uddin Shajib, Lecturer, who also delivered a presentation on Efficient Electricity Use. As part of the initiative, WUB set a targeted goal of 10% electricity reduction per day, emphasizing its importance for environmental sustainability and operational cost efficiency. Key strategic interventions discussed included LED lighting rollout, motion-sensor lighting, efficient AC systems, usage time control, and awareness campaigns. The seminar was attended by Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty members, over 200 students from various programs and Green committee members. The initiative aimed to raise awareness on efficient electricity usage, encourage practices such as switching off unused electrical devices and utilizing natural light, and foster student-led initiatives to reduce power consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. It also provided guidance on adopting sustainable electricity usage habits. Speakers stressed the importance of behavioral change in achieving energy efficiency and urged the university community to contribute actively to creating a greener campus. This program reflects WUB’s commitment towards sustainability activities and its vision of building conscious academic environment.
