Professor Dr. Selim Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies at the World University of Bangladesh (WUB), advanced the university's role in global and national policy-making during his tenure as a visiting scholar at the University of Leeds, UK, from 24 February to 1 March 2025. His presentation of the research paper, “Sustainable Business Performance of the Ready-Made Garments Sector in Bangladesh,” positioned WUB as a key contributor to the international discourse on sustainable industry.
By disseminating critical research on the RMG sector—a vital source of employment and economic growth for millions in Bangladesh—Professor Ahmed engaged directly with global academic and policy networks. This exchange facilitates the development of evidence-based strategies that address the social, economic, and environmental dimensions of poverty. The research provides a crucial evidence base for shaping policies at the national level in Bangladesh to ensure the industry's longevity and fairness, while also influencing global supply chain ethics and international trade policies.
Furthermore, the discussions to establish collaborative research projects with Leeds University Business School and the University of Lincoln solidify WUB’s commitment to generating knowledge that directly informs and implements programmes aimed at creating equitable economic growth and ending poverty in all its dimensions.
