On 25 September 2025, the Basic Science Division of the World University
of Bangladesh observed the 49th death anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul
Islam with a seminar and cultural programme titled “Love and Rebellion in Nazrul’s Literary Works.” The event, held
at the Founding Treasurer Morsheda Chowdhury Auditorium, paid tribute to
Nazrul’s timeless contributions to Bengali literature.
The seminar was graced by Professor Dr. M. Nurul Islam, Pro-Vice Chancellor, as Chief Guest; Professor Md. Mokbul Hossain, Controller of Examinations, as Special Guest; and presided over by Professor Zaki Imam, Registrar. The seminar was inaugurated with a welcome address by Mr. Saddam Hossain, Head of Basic Science Division. Distinguished speakers included Ikram Ahmed Lenin, former Executive Director of the Kabi Nazrul Institute, and Pijush Kumar Bhattacharjee, noted writer and Nazrul researcher.
Keynote presenter Chinmoy Kumar Mallik, Lecturer in Bengali Language and
Literature, highlighted the poet’s philosophy of love, defiance, and social
justice. In recognition of his lifelong dedication, Mr. Bhattacharjee was
conferred the honorary title “Nazrul
Sristir Pagol.”
The event concluded with cultural performances by students, including a
notable recitation of “Lichu Chor”
by Alamin Bebeji, an international student from Nigeria.
The programme was conducted by Sadia Sultana, Lecturer in Bengali
Language and Literature, and ended with a vote of thanks, marking a memorable
tribute to the Rebel Poet.
