Under the Shade of Green: Celebrating World Environment Day

On the occasion of World Environment Day and to increase awareness about environmental conservation, a day-long environmental program, ‘Under the Shade of Green,’ was organized by the World University of Bangladesh (WUB) Friends Association. The program, which consisted of tree plantation, tree exhibition, fruit distribution, discussion meeting, and cultural program, was filled with spontaneous participation of the students.

The event was inaugurated by the university's Joint Registrar, Md. Kamrul Hossain and A.N.M. Ahsan Thouhid, honorable advisor Prof. Dr. Selim Ahmed. Present at the event were Nur Alam, Vice-President of the National Board of Directors of Prothom Alo Bandhushava, eminent writer and journalist Ashfaquzzaman, President of the World University of Bangladesh Bandhushava Tanzim Hossain Oyshi, and other guests and general friends, by planting trees in front of the university campus. Later, they visited the tree exhibition and learned about the students' eco-friendly initiatives. After that, the fruits were distributed among the students.

During the discussion, the guests highlighted the significance of World Environment Day and emphasized the role of the young generation in protecting the environment, conserving biodiversity, and combating the adverse effects of climate change. The speakers said that there is no alternative to tree planting and eco-friendly living at the personal and social levels to build a livable world.

Later, a delightful cultural program was held. Students participated in dance, singing, and other performances. The lively arrangements, friendly atmosphere, and the loud presence of students made the university cafeteria and the surrounding area festive throughout the day.

In the concluding part of the program, saplings of different species of trees were distributed among the general students. 

The organizers said that such initiatives will continue in the future to further accelerate environmental conservation and greening activities, keeping in mind the spirit of World Environment Day.
