The Department of Civil Engineering, World University of
Bangladesh (WUB), successfully organized CiviCon
2026, an intra-departmental civil
engineering technology festival, at the WUB Campus on July 31, 2026. Held under the theme “Innovating
Sustainable Solutions for the Future,”
the festival brought together academicians, engineering professionals,
researchers, faculty members, students, judges, organizers, and volunteers to
celebrate innovation, technical excellence, and sustainable engineering
practices.
The festival provided students with a platform to demonstrate
their engineering knowledge, practical skills, and innovative ideas through
four major competitions: Project
Showcasing, Poster Presentation, AutoCAD Competition, and Mechanics
Olympiad.
The formal programme and award ceremony were held at the Founding Treasurer Morsheda Choudhury
Auditorium of the World University of
Bangladesh. The event was graced by Professor Dr.
M. Nurul Islam, Honorable Pro Vice-Chancellor,
World University of Bangladesh, as the Chief Guest. Professor Zaki Imam, Registrar, World University of Bangladesh, and Professor Dr. AQM Shafiul Azam, Dean of Academic Affairs and Research, attended the programme as
Special Guests. Sagor Kumar Podder, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, presided over the
programme as the Chairperson.
In his address, Professor Dr. M. Nurul Islam emphasized the
importance of academic initiatives that enable students to apply classroom
knowledge to real-world engineering challenges. Professor Zaki Imam highlighted
the role of such festivals in developing students' confidence, communication
skills, and professional competence, while Professor Dr. AQM Shafiul Azam
underscored the significance of research, creativity, and interdisciplinary
collaboration in higher education.
The competitions were evaluated by a distinguished panel of
external judges comprising Dr. Md.
Habibur Rahman, former Professor of
Environmental Engineering at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and
Technology; Dr. Md. Tarek Uddin, PEng., Professor of Structural Engineering at the Islamic University of
Technology; Dr. Md. Hadiuzzaman, Professor of Transportation Engineering at the Bangladesh
University of Engineering and Technology; Dr. Partha Saha, Senior Research Engineer at the Housing and Building Research
Institute; and Suvro Das Bhowmick, Managing Director of Consol Limited.
During the closing session, awards and certificates were presented
to the winners of all four competitions. In the Project Showcasing Competition, Yasir Arafat Santo, Md. Masud Rana
and Md. Rashed Ansari Redoy became
Champion, while Md. Maynul Hasan, Md. Nayeem Al
Rifat and Md. Al Amin secured the
First Runner-Up position and Md. Sifur
Rahaman, Md. Kazi Abidul and Abu Zafor Md. Obaidullah Siddiki became the Second Runner-Up.
In the Poster
Presentation Competition, Md. Ashadujjaman Asif, Sourav Dey and Lokib
Hosayeni Limon were declared Champion, followed
by Md. Tahsanul Haque, Fahmida Afrin
Noha and Yasir Arafat Santo as the First
Runner-Up and S.M. Oliul Hasan, Tumpa Mondol and
Prosanta Mondol as the Second Runner-Up.
In the AutoCAD
Competition, Md. Tanvir Ahmed Ratul achieved the Champion position, while Mahmodul Hoque and Md. Mahbub
Hasan secured the First Runner-Up and
Second Runner-Up positions, respectively.
In the Mechanics
Olympiad, Gulshana Akter Mim emerged as the Champion, while Afsana Akter Rimu secured the First Runner-Up position and Rakibul Hasan Maruf achieved the Second Runner-Up position.
In his
closing remarks, Sagor Kumar Podder, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering and Chairperson of
CiviCon 2026, thanked the Advisory Committee, organizing committee, external
judges, mentors, faculty members, volunteers, and participants for making the
event a success. He encouraged students to continue transforming their
engineering knowledge into innovative and sustainable solutions and expressed
his hope that CiviCon would continue as a regular academic platform for
nurturing future civil engineers.
